A VERDADEIRA CASA DO CHRIS EM BED-STUY, BROOKLYN!

Posted by

Folks, you’re not going to believe what’s behind me. It’s… Chris’s house! Three hours earlier And we’re here – in Chris’s neighborhood! This is the subway station he must have used as a kid. OK, Chris worked at a corner store near his house. And we’re here in front of the store that’s at the corner of the street he lived on. I have no idea if this store was there in those times. Let’s see if they want to talk to me. Today we in New York call this a bodega, in Spanish, because the majority of their owners are Hispanic. I’m going to try to speak to the owner, to see if he remembers Chris. [SPANISH] Who are you, the owner? Well, we work here. And tell me, how long have you been working here? Nineteen years. Had Chris already left when you got here? Yes, he had. And do you know his work? No, I don’t pay much mind to it. That’s right, it’s the house of Chris Rock, the comedian who created the program Everybody Hates Chris. That program was filmed in California, which is to say that his house on the program isn’t even a real house. It’s a Hollywood set. But it’s all based on this street where we are now, Decatur Street, number 619, where Chris Rock was raised. And we’re here to see if the house looks like the one in the show. Truthfully, it’s not so similar. But the idea’s the same. It’s a residential street of houses we call brownstones, even those who aren’t brown, and they are family houses. Look, someone’s here – maybe it’s the people who live in Chris’s house! I’m going to talk to them, just a sec. I’m the first person to come speak to them. An Amigo Gringo exclusive! You might have noticed that they’re happy with the changes in the neighborhood. There’s no more crime, no more drugs. Not everybody is happy. It’s the process called gentrification, Before, it was an African-American neighborhood, now new folks have arrived of every race, they change the neighborhood, and some people are happy with that and others not so happy. Among those that are happy, are the ones that own their houses, because they’re the ones that are going to get wealthier because they can sell the house at some point. Folks, we found someone who lives here on the block and remembers Chris and his family. It’s Kevin Harrell, who’s going to talk to us. When you say Bed-Stuy, people think of this… NEW YORKESE CLASS OK, I hope you liked our video here in Bed-Stuy, Chris’s neighborhood. Subscribe to the channel, and follow us on social media. Visit our Patreon page, that’s where you can support the channel and be part of our Telegram group, participate in surveys, and that sort of thing. Take a look. And I also want to thank today’s volunteers, come here! Elaine and Sol – who helped us with filming today. OK, now get out of here. Just kidding. And now, your New Yorkese class. Where does that name Bed-Stuy come from, and why is it written like that? It’s quite strange. In reality it was originally two neighborhoods, They put the names together and it became Bed-Stuy Greetings to all Brazilians, I hope you’re doing well
