MANY BEACHES ARE CLOSED. MORE OF WHAT TO EXPECT FOR YOUR WEEKEND, COMING UP IN A FEW MINUTES. >>AMY, THAT RIP CURRENT CONCERN, VERY HIGH AND VERY MUCH ON THE MINDS OF MANY PEOPLE. IN FACT, LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT OUR LIFE CAMERA FROM ASBURY PARK. SWIMMERS AND SURFERS ARE URGED TO USE CAUTION AND STAY OUT OF THE WATER UNTIL SITUATIONS IMPROVE. THE SITUATION IS MORE SERIOUS ALONG NEW YORK. DERICK WALLER SENT OUT A TWEET THIS MORNING ON THIS TOPIC. HE HAS MORE FROM ROCKAWAY BEACH. >>Reporter: CITY OFFICIALS TOOK THE RARE STEP OF CLOSING BEACHES TO SWIMMERS AND SURFERS. THEY DON’T WANT ANYONE GOING IN THESE WATERS AS HURRICANE DORIAN TURNS UP THE GHOST. SIGNAGE ON THE BOARDWALK SPELLS IT OUT. DANGER, DROWNING RISK. THE SUMMER FOUR PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY DROWNED IT ROCKAWAY BEACH. NOW EFFECTIVE FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, THERE IS NO SWIMMING OR SURFING ALLOWED AT ANY NEW YORK CITY BEACH AS DORIAN PASSES THROUGH THE WATERS. WE CAN EXPECT SWELLS AROUND 10 FEET AND LIFE-THREATENING RIP CURRENTS. THAT IS ENOUGH OF A WARNING FOR BERNICE, CELEBRATING HER BIRTHDAY WITH A QUIET MORNING BY THE OCEAN. >>NOT TODAY AND NOT TOMORROW. WAIT TO GET THE CLEAR. >>Reporter: EXACTLY, YOU DON’T MESS AROUND. >>KNOW. YOU CAN SIT BACK AND LOOK FROM AFAR, BUT DON’T GET IN THE WATER. >>Reporter: MEANWHILE ALONG THE JERSEY SHORE, THE DECISION TO CLOSE BEACHES IS UP TO INDIVIDUAL CITIES AND TOWNS. STILL, GOVERNOR PHIL MURPHY ISSUED THIS WARNING TO ANYONE THINKING ABOUT GOING OUT ON THE WATER. >>IF DORIAN HAS SHOWN US ONE THING IT IS THAT IT IS UNPREDICTABLE AND DANGEROUS STORM. PLEASE STAY OFF THE BEACHES. THE LAST THING ANYONE WANTS IS TO HAVE TO SEND EMERGENCY HELP TO THE WATERS. >>Reporter: HERE IS SOME GOOD NEWS FOR NEW YORK CITY
